Male Breast Reduction

Breast tissue in men is common, and is often the result of genetic predisposition, medications, old age or anabolic steroid use. If excessive, this breast tissue causes embarrassment in social situations where shirts must be removed.

Treatment of this condition is performed as an outpatient procedure through a small incision at the lower border of the areola. Using a combination of surgical excision and ultrasonic liposuction, all abnormal breast tissue can be completely removed. Patients are up and around in 1 to 2 days and back to work in 3 to 4 days. Post-operative bruising settles in 7 to 10 days. 

The sutures are dissolving, so there is no discomfort when the knots are removed at 10 to 12 days post-operatively.  The incision usually becomes undetectable within 3 to 6 weeks.  A compression vest, which is provided, is worn under regular clothing for three weeks to further improve the long term result.

Patients can return to light gym activity by 3 weeks and unrestricted chest exercise by 6 weeks.
